LA Fitness Discriminates
Never thought I’d be writing a headline like that one for a good, long while. Unfortunately, it seems to be the only headline that fits after the run-in I just had with a manager/consultant at my local LA Fitness.
After grabbing a bite to eat (Turkey sandwich) from Starbucks, I decided — on a whim — to pop into the LA Fitness around the corner to pick up some literature about their facility and fitness programs.
Upon entering, the young lady at the front desk was quite pleasant and as she was about to start telling me about their facilities and possibly give me a brochure, she said that she could have a consultant speak with me. I was a little taken aback by the request, but after she assured me it wouldn’t take more than 10-15 minutes I decided I could go for it.
When the man appeared, who I could only surmise was the manager and consultant, I mentioned that I was looking to slim down and wanted some information about their establishment and fitness programs — aerobics specifically. He told me he didn’t have anything.
“You have absolutely no literature or marketing materials about your establishment?”
“No. But, we have a special going on right now where you can sign up for $100.”
“Really? Could you tell me more about it?”
“Well, it’s the cheapest you’ll find.”
At this point, I gave him an “OK dumbass, how exactly does that answer my question?” look and just said thanks and left.
After having a glance around the gym and realizing that there wasn’t anyone else in there who looked like me. I finally figured out that he was giving me the brush off as other gym members pushed past me. I hadn’t felt so lowly in at least 6 years (since the Chili’s incident).
In this day and age, it’s so appalling to come across people like this. If I had any energy left in me, I’d send a letter to their corporate headquarters, but quite frankly, I don’t want to give this negativity any more of my time or energy. In fact, I’m just writing this entry as a warning to others who are considering LA Fitness.
And when I think about the other people who’ve had a truly terrible experience with the LA Fitness customer service, I realize that this was probably the Universe telling me to steer clear of the entire LA Fitness establishment period. Now, I’m going to find another local gym where I can feel comfortable.
Put plainly, it may be the “cheapest” I’ll find, but I’d rather pay a few dollars more for better customer service where I’m actually wanted.
