Familial Diet Sabotage
It may not be intentional, but I’m beginning to think my sister is trying to sabotage my weight loss goals.
Today, while I was working out, the phone rang. (I know I probably shouldn’t have answered it, but that would have opened up an entirely different can of worms I wasn’t ready to deal with.) When my sister asked what I was doing, I huffed out a short, “exercising!” And I actually was exercising.
It was clear in my mind that the conversation should have been shelved for another time, but she started chatting about her day. Huh? After about a minute, it was apparent she expected me to stop exercising just to speak with her. Finally, I couldn’t take it anymore (have you tried juggling a phone between your neck and cheek while bouncing around?), so I had to say, “Hun, I love you, but I need to call you back. I’m in the middle of a workout.”
She sounded a little bummed, but it’s something she should have respected in the first place. She constantly says she’s fat and needs to lose weight, but I’m actually taking the time and effort to do it instead of bitching about to it anyone who will listen.
She’s busy, but she needs to make some life changes herself if she wants to lose weight instead of trying to (subconsciously) sabotage my weight loss goals. And yes, I’ve told her this and offered to go walking with her or being her support group so she doesn’t have to be alone in the game.
