An Early Start

Well, I’m off to a very early start today — or rather, you can say that I never went to sleep.

My body appears to still be running on European time and I’ve resolved myself to deal with it until it adjusts itself.

So, very late last night (or very early depending on how you look at it), I decided to go out for a drive. It felt wonderful being on the open road and driving; peaceful and quiet and open with no one else to encroach on my lanes.

After cruising — the only way to describe since it was one of the few times I was traveling around 5 miles per hour below the speed limit — for roughly 30 minutes, I decided to pop into a Wal-Mart since they tend to be open 24 hours a day and purchase some necessities. Little did I know these necessities would include vitamins. But, I was certain they would include a sleep mask.

As I walked through the store on a bee-line path to the toiletries to snag a sleep mask, I was distracted by the vitamin section. Didn’t really need anything I could think of…well, let’s just say I hadn’t purchased vitamins in a good while. But, there I was, staring at the shelves looking for some unknown product. I didn’t know what I wanted until my hand landed on the Co-Q 10 bottle, then my eyes trailed up until I saw the lutein bottle and when it finally came to rest on the liquid Centrum mix, I said, "What the heck!" And scooped up that bottle, too.

While getting ready to make my way home, I fell off the wagon and hard, but it tasted so good. There was a 24 hour Steak & Shake on the way and my body was craving meat. Odd considering I’m not a big meat eater, but I knew that I wasn’t craving meat necessarily, just a substance it has — protein. It’s easy to read your body’s desires when you understand why you crave certain things (I’ll get to that in another entry).

I pulled up to the drive through and ordered a steak burger, french fries, and a root beer. All "bad" things, I know. The good news, however, is that I worked it off this morning and I’ll also be doing my regular exercises this evening. To me, it was a reward for staying on track while on vacation and I was damn good on vacation when all things are considered.

Although I stepped on the scale today and I didn’t lose any weight (didn’t gain any either, yay!) I still feel wonderful. This is the feeling I need to carry with me throughout the day everyday — it keeps me motivated to push forward.
